Arts Management


The MA in Arts Management at Bath Spa builds on students’ own previous experience and background, expanding their professional arts and cultural knowledge, management skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and creative leadership skills. Designed and delivered in close collaboration with leading arts organisations, the course provides students with the theoretical framework, appropriate skills and practical experience to meet the challenges of working in their chosen field.

This flexible course adapts to the ever changing world of culture and the arts. It will expand your theoretical understanding and professional knowledge of arts and cultural management, through hands-on experience and work-based learning.

We will give you the unique opportunity to engage with an extensive range of regional, national and international arts and cultural organisations. These cover the full range of the creative industries including dance, theatre, music, digital creativity, fine art, fashion and heritage.

You will graduate as a responsive, resilient, flexible and imaginative practitioner, equally comfortable in a variety of settings, adept at working in partnership with a wide range of organisations.

Building on your own experience and background, you will expand your professional arts knowledge, management skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and creative leadership skills.

Curriculum

On the course you combine bespoke Arts Management modules with a choice of Business and Management modules in your own particular areas of interest. These include:

Arts Management in the 21st Century
Managing Arts and Cultural Events
Marketing Communications
Work Placement
Marketing Management
Entrepreneurship
International Business
Managing People

The MA culminates with either a dissertation on arts and cultural management, or an extended placement project.


Admissions

You will normally have a good first degree in any academic subject. You may be considered without a first degree if you can demonstrate considerable relevant experience; you may be asked to attend an interview (if interview required, can be done by Skype for international students).
