Building Communities of the Future: Arts Administrators as Agents of Change

As the world seemingly shifts beneath our feet, AAAE invites participants to examine and celebrate arts administrators as movement leaders, social innovators, community organizers, artistic partners, social justice advocates, and more. We know that arts and cultural administration skills are highly transferable and desireable across industries. Emotional intelligence, iterative development and evaluation, crisis management, and complex collaboration skills are all key components to an arts administrator’s education. They are also precisely the skills required to navigate the complex issues that are part of our every day lives, including social change, political churn, environmental instability and more. The 2018 conference will gather our field’s thinkers and practitioners to explore the multi-faceted arts administration skill set and the ways in which we, our students, and our colleagues are uniquely equipped to affect positive change in the world.

Proposals that relate to the theme will be most fully considered for the conference. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

Diversifying the Arts Administration Education Pipeline and Field
Disaster Response and Recovery
Art, Communities, and Gentrification
Arts Philanthropy and Giving Philosophies
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
