ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Paul Taylor Dance Company, established in 1954, is one of the world’s most highly respected and sought-after modern dance companies in the world. Founded by Paul Taylor, one of the most celebrated artists in history, the company has performed throughout the United States, as well as in 62 countries. In 2015, Paul Taylor created a major new initiative, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance (PTAMD), to preserve American modern dance as well as showcase the original works of new choreographers.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Paul Taylor Dance Foundation seeks a fundraiser to write, manage, and secure grants from foundations, corporate foundations, and government agencies. He/she will lead grant proposal writing, fundraising strategy development and implementation, and help to steward relationships with institutional funders. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Institutional Giving Manager will work closely with a dynamic development team and collaborate across departments to prepare letters of inquiry, grant proposals and reports that sustain current funding and secure new four- to seven-figure grants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Executive Director and Chief Development Officer (CDO) to develop fundraising strategies that increase foundation, corporate, and government (institutional) support
- Help to develop and then lead implementation of the institutional fundraising plan to meet annual and future revenue goals for growth
- Manage and participate in stewardship of a well-established portfolio of institutional donors
- Work closely with staff to gain the necessary knowledge of programs to effectively communicate to funders through proposals, reports, meetings, and site visits
- Manage a calendar/tracking system and ensure timely submission of LOI’s, proposals, reports, and all requests to meet funder requirements and grant compliance
- Manage the stewardship and compliance of all institutional grants, including coordinating with other departments regarding funding purpose and requirements from the funder
- Identify, research, and cultivate new institutional prospects to build a 1-3 year pipeline of new support
- Develop sponsorship strategies and secure support from foundations, corporations, and government
- Collaborate with the CDO and senior leadership to write concept papers, effective proposals, reports, correspondence, and other materials
- Work as an effective team member of a vigorously engaged administrative office
- Represent PTAMD at receptions, donor meetings, briefings, and other events as needed
- Participate in short- and long-term departmental planning initiatives
- Maintain donor records in Raiser’s Edge and in organizational files
- Perform other duties as requested
CREATIVE STRATEGIES
- Keep up-to-date on funding trends and priorities within the arts and culture space
- Identify top local and national funders to arts and culture, specifically dance and live music
- Work with organization’s leadership to identify their relationships and contacts at foundations, corporations, and corporate foundations, and then prioritize those prospects for outreach
- Develop donor stewardship and cultivation strategies to expand institutional donor base
- Develop sponsorship levels and package to increase corporate revenue
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Outstanding writing and editing skills
- Excellent oral communication abilities, including internal and external relationships
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- At least 3 years of experience as Development staff member, preferably at a non-profit arts institution, or with background and interest in the cultural sector
- Experience securing and stewarding grants
- A successful track record of identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major funding from corporations, foundations, and government/public agencies
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, make independent decisions, and work well under deadlines, exercising confidentiality, good judgement, diplomacy, and tact
- Computer literacy, including competency with Raisers’ Edge, Microsoft Office, and other Development software systems
- Systematic approach to grants management, including design of materials easily shared internally for discussion purposes
