Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Arts Administration

Nov 5, 2018

The University of Kentucky seeks a dynamic and passionate faculty member to join the Department of Arts Administration in the College of Fine Arts. The rank of the incoming faculty member is open and will be determined based on the candidate’s background and experience.

About the Department

The Department of Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky is the first stand-alone department in the field in the United States. The department currently offers two degree programs: the BA in Arts Administration and the completely online MA in Arts Administration.

The undergraduate program, founded in 1987, is the oldest BA in Arts Administration nationwide. Annually, there are approximately 130 students enrolled in the degree program.

The graduate program, launched in 2013, was the first completely online MA in Arts Administration at a state institution. The MA is designed for working professionals and operates year-round. On average, the MA program has 65 enrolled students.

Currently, the department includes five full-time faculty and two full-time staff members including a dedicated instructional designer who works exclusively with the department’s online offerings. Additionally, the department employs 12-15 part-time instructors annually. Due to expansion, the department will add additional full-time faculty in 2019-20.

The department values innovation in pedagogical models; the advancement of research in the field of Arts Administration; and collaboration among faculty, students, staff, and community.

University of Kentucky

The University of Kentucky is the Commonwealth’s flagship, land grant research institution. UK’s campus is enjoying great growth in classrooms and campus facilities. It covers more than 918 acres; is home to more than 30,000 students, 14,500 employees including 2,300 full-time faculty; has more than 90 nationally ranked academic programs; and boasts an annual budget of more than $3 billion.

The Chronicle of Higher Education named the University of Kentucky one of the “Great Colleges to Work for in 2018.”

Location

Lexington is the second largest city in Kentucky and the 60th largest in the United States. Known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” it is the heart of the historic Bluegrass Region of Kentucky and is surrounded by world-famous horse farms. The metropolitan areas of Louisville and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky are each within 80 miles.

What makes the Bluegrass Region unique is its variety – the variety of its landscape, educational opportunities, health care choices, family activities, arts and culture, businesses, and economy. Because of its diverse economy, Lexington and its surrounding region have fared a lot better during recent economic downturns than a lot of communities.

Lexington has been recognized by multiple national sources as a top community for home buyers (Movoto Real Estate), jobs (Forbes), high-tech start-ups (The Atlantic Cities & Kauffman Foundation), college towns (Livability.com), and retirement (Forbes & CNN Money). Lexington was also named a Google eCity in 2013, recognizing the top on-line business communities in each state.

Lexington is also home to many thriving arts organizations, including a professional orchestra, two ballet companies, a professional theatre, several museums, several choral organizations, and a vibrant mural arts program.

Application Deadline

Review of applicants will begin on December 1, 2018. Position will remain open until filled.
