Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) Coordinator

The new 118,000-square foot state of the art Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) at Eastern Connecticut State University (Eastern) houses Eastern’s Art and Art History, Theatre and Music programs, as well as the University’s Art Gallery, Concert Hall, Proscenium Theater, and Studio Theater. The new center provides lecture, rehearsal, studio and performance spaces that will allow faculty and students to fully explore their creativity and share it with campus audiences as well as local and regional patrons.

Position Description: The Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) Coordinator works in cooperation with academic programs for the scheduling of events, marketing, coordination and operation of Fine Arts programs and venues for both internal and external constituencies.

Position responsibilities: The VPA Coordinator works in conjunction with the University Relations Department and with the VPA academic programs to coordinate and facilitate the publicity and marketing for all events within the VPA; to coordinate and facilitate creation of and distribution of printed promotional materials (e.g., programs, posters, flyers, etc.) for all events within the VPA; to coordinate and maintain traditional, social and electronic media related to all events within the VPA; to manage the VPA Box Office as well as all “Front of House” activities (on and off campus), including staffing of events, crowd control, catering, and concessions; to manage the “Back of House” technical services (on and off campus), as needed, (e.g. stage setup, audio, piano tuning and lighting) and related services as required by the client and event parameters; to facilitate operational support for VPA departmental productions, performances, exhibitions, and academic activities as needed; to coordinate the hiring, training, and scheduling of all student crews for Fine Arts events during the summer; to schedule and manage rental of VPA venues during the summer in accordance with specific departmental academic and artistic scheduling protocols; to coordinate community outreach programs, including open houses, VPA public tours, and recruitment events; and perform other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Master’s Degree in a field relevant to visual & performing arts and/or arts management preferred. Three years of work experience managing a visual and performing arts facility. Experience in an educational setting preferred. Demonstrated understanding of the operational elements of a visual and performing arts facility; demonstrated skills with social media and traditional media marketing; availability for work calls after hours and on weekends is expected. These requirements may be waived for individuals with alternate experience.
