Karen Munnelly

Karen Munnelly is the Director of Graduate Arts Administration and an Assistant Professor at Florida State University. Prior to her appointment at FSU, Dr. Munnelly served as the Director of Professional Programs for the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. In this role she managed the Fine Arts Career Center, assisted with the administration of the minor in arts management and administration and helped to launch a need-based scholarship to support students completing internships. Dr. Munnelly also served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky.

Before going into higher education, Dr. Munnelly enjoyed a successful career in arts administration. She served as the Director of Operations for the Aspen Music Festival & School, the Artistic & Operations Director for the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Artistic Assistant for the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. Munnelly is extremely passionate about the education and training of future arts administrators.  At both the Aspen Music Festival & School and the National Repertory Orchestra, she was responsible for hiring and supervising a number of seasonal staff and interns who were either studying arts administration or pursuing careers in arts administration. Many now hold positions with orchestras and arts organizations around the country.

Dr. Munnelly received her Ph.D. in Arts Administration, Education & Policy at The Ohio State University.  She received a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the University of South Florida.
