AAAE's annual conferences provide an invaluable opportunity to connect with peers from around the world, share insights, and explore the larger issues of arts and cultural management education. Conferences are hosted by AAAE members in different locations each year, providing an additional opportunity to explore the culture and climate of new places.

In June 2007, AAAE colleagues from across the country and around the world gathered in the great city of Chicago for a dynamic mix of educators, program directors, practitioners, alumni, and friends. The annual AAAE membership conference is our annual chance to share what we know, learn what we need, and reconnect with emerging issues and ideas in arts and cultural management.


2006 Conference: Toronto, Ontario
"Foundations for Success: Excellent Students, Faculty and Programs"
April 20-22, 2006
Hosted by the University of Toronto Scarborough, the University of Waterloo and the Schulich School of Business at York University

AAAE's 2006 conference explored the emerging arts district of Toronto, in the unique, boutique Gladstone Hotel. Sessions covered emerging issues in arts administration education, practitioner panels, and open discussion sessions among members. The event was collaboratively hosted by the University of Toronto Scarborough, the University of Waterloo and the Schulich School of Business at York University.


2005 Conference: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
"Building Our Capacity & Expanding Our Reach"

Hosted by the Institute for the Management of Creative Enterprises at Carnegie Mellon University

Our 2005 conference was hosted by the Institute for the Management of Creative Enterprises at Carnegie Mellon University. Members from across North America and around the world came together in Pittsburgh's extraordinary cultural environment to learn from and teach each other.


2004 Conference: Dallas, Texas
"The Road from Education to Practice"
April 22-24, 2004
Hosted by Southern Methodist University

The 2004 Annual AAAE Conference was hosted by Southern Methodist University's Arts Administration program at the Westin City Center Hotel. More than 50 program directors from North America, Australia, China and the Netherlands participated in this three-day meeting. The conference focused on "The Road from Education to Practice" and continued AAAE's work on content standards and program development for arts administration education, including several approaches to teaching methodology and technology. Workshop topics integrated experiential learning, online teaching, self-assessment and standard setting for arts administration programs. The conference emphasized the connection between theory and practice and explored the challenges arts administrators' educators face today.
