Program Goals and Objectives

LASALLE College of the Arts

Founded in 1984 by De La Salle educator, Brother Joseph McNally, LASALLE College of the Arts is a specialist tertiary institution leading contemporary arts education in fine art, design, media, performing arts and arts management in the Asia Pacific. The strategic objective of the College is to be widely recognized by informed authorities as the leading institution focusing on teaching and research into issues relating to the interaction of the varied artistic traditions seen in Singapore and South East Asia. Contemporary in focus and innovative in approach, LASALLE has been nurturing some of Singapore’s leading creative practitioners. Our hero graduates and accomplished faculty staff include established artists, respected curators, writers, producers, arts managers, musicians, dance and theatre pioneers, and countless practitioners from the creative industries in Singapore and beyond.

LASALLE is located in the city of Singapore, surrounded by many museums and art spaces all within walking distance from the college. These include the Singapore Art Museum, The Arts House, Sculpture Square, Esplanade -Theatres on the Bay (Singapore's iconic performing arts centre) etc. LASALLE also houses the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Singapore (ICAS) directed by Dr. Charles Merewether, a prominent art historian and curator.

School of Arts Management

LASALLE pioneered arts management education in the 1990’s. We have the most established arts management programmes in Singapore with nearly 20 years of experience teaching in this field. We are known to develop innovative courses that not only respond to industry needs but also in leading and influencing the developments of the industry.

We have the only arts management programmes in Singapore that are validated by Goldsmiths College, University of London and accredited by the two most influential international industry training bodies: the US based Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE) and the European based European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centres (ENCATC).

LASALLE's School of Arts Management resides under the Faculty for the Creative Industries and is led by Suyin Chew, Head of School who remarked that "The tremendous growth in the creative industries in Asia and globally has propelled the need for management professionals, producers, curators, critics, writers, thinkers, passionate advocates and creative analysts. The vision of the school is to facilitate the development of leaders with enhanced skills and sensitivity to pioneer careers beyond the limits of borders." Hence the School is home to ANCER (Asia Pacific Network for Cultural Education and Research). Membership to ANCER is by invitation. More information may be found on :http//i-am.sg/main/ or through ANCER secretariat: suyin.chew@lasalle.edu.sg
