Program Goals and Objectives

The European Management Programme for the Arts and Media aims to enable participants to:

· acquire management skills in combination with a discerning knowledge of the arts, culture, and the media
· develop analytic and decisive abilities as well as strategic foresight
· construct their own critical perspective on cultural policies and management in the public and private sectors on an international level;

Participants work on projects in teams. Facilitated by an EMPAM supervisor, each team designs and implements a period of self-directed, project based study. In this course of study, management skills and tools are combined with specialized knowledge of the different art and cultural fields. Critical analysis, interdisciplinary thinking, and the challenges of the new technologies are stressed. Each team develops and carries out a major project in cultural management for an actual institution or agency within a framework structured by EMPAM. Each project team creates a schedule of study that includes both required subjects and topics selected by the team. Each team may call in outside experts to conduct workshops as needed and/or to serve as project consultants. EMPAM project supervisors advise each team; participate in the project development process, and on occasion, lead sessions

Priority programs are:

· Management Of Arts Organizations
· Publishing And Copyright
