Program Goals and Objectives
The program's emphasis is on a combination of critical background and practical skills needed to be an effective nonprofit arts manager. The program emphasizes the place of the arts in the community and the contribution the arts make to society. Faculty are drawn from among the country's most experienced and most distinguished practitioners in the field.
This program primarily serves working professionals seeking to increase their knowledge and skills without having to change jobs, move to a new location, or commute to classes.
The limited residency distance learning model is unique among Arts Administration graduate degrees. Each summer, students attend an intensive two-week residency on Goucher's beautiful Baltimore campus, during which time they begin one course, and meet with instructors for the courses they will take during the coming academic year. The remainder of the coursework is completed remotely from each student's home base, utilizing the latest distance learning technologies and techniques. Most faculty require a weekly meeting, either online or by telephone conference, and academic requirements are rigorous.
