The economic foundations of culture in Finland various art forms in Finland, the Finnish culture and cultural entrepreneurship as well as the Nordic model of cultural export will be the starting points of the course. The students will learn to understand the economic foundation of culture as part of the state structure.
Students will learn to understand the meaning of tradition and history in the context of cultural production. Therefore, we will look at different cultural expressions (art forms, cultural symbols, habits, beliefs, customs, values) as a part of identity construction. Defining national cultural expressions as something that forms and deforms our own identity will be the theoretical starting point of our course. We will concentrate on Finnish cultural export, but we will also examine the subject on European and global level.

The event will combine European cultural diversity and the Finnish tradition of cultural policy. The course will be divided into two parts. The first part is a two-week contact teaching period. It includes studier of children's development by cultural education and comparing the status of children's culture around Europe. The second part is a four-week project. The students will produce children’s cultural event where they will take care of planning, informing and marketing. Though the focus will be on cultural tradition and questions relating to cultural production, the course will give students the possibility to take a closer look at the Finnish language, art and modern media culture.
