Program Goals and Objectives
Founded in 1976, the Columbia College Arts Management Department provides educational opportunity and training for students seeking to manage or administer creative endeavor. The Columbia College Arts Management Department offers education in the classroom and in the field for those who want to manage creative enterprise including the arts, entertainment, media and fashion industries.
In addition to mastery of the foundations of business, Arts Management students develop skills in communication, quantitative and qualitative analysis. Emphasis is placed on developing within the student the means to understand people, work effectively, form sound judgments and demonstrate social responsibility.
The Arts Management curriculum focuses on both the for-profit and non-profit sectors of cultural enterprise. Students majoring in Arts Management select from among six concentrations, tailoring their education to fit their needs and interests. Concentrations include: Music Business Management, Performing Arts Management, Media Management, Visual Arts Management, Fashion/Retail Management, and Arts Entrepreneurship/Small Business.
Graduates of the BA program are prepared to enter the workforce in their field of concentration. At the same time, the Arts Management Department stresses the development of skills and knowledge that are widely transferable and that are applicable throughout life.
Administration of the Program
The Undergraduate Program Director is Phyllis A. Johnson and the Department Chairperson is J. Dennis Rich. The Arts Management Department collaborates with a variety of other departments and programs in training Arts Management majors including: Art and Design, Dance, Fiction Writing, Film and Video, Interactive Multimedia, Journalism, Marketing Communication, Music, Photography, Radio/Sound, Television, and Theater.

This concentration integrates the creative interest of students with the skill sets needed to start out and grow their own business.

Admissions
Columbia's open admissions policy at the undergraduate level is designed to extend educational opportunities to all students who have creative ability or interest in the subjects Columbia offers. Minimum entrance requirements include a high school diploma, or equivalent. ACT or SAT scores, though not required for admission, are recommended.
Applications are accepted on a continuing basis. To be admitted to Columbia College, students must submit an application for admission, which includes a personal essay, proof of high school graduation or equivalent, and transcripts of previous college work, if any. For more information, contact:
