| Abstract | Private museums in Korea have been left out of public support for a long time, generating serious financial difficulties. Although the government recently initiated exceptional funding programs for private museums, the public still does not put trust in these individually owned museums and hesitates to support them, distinguishing them from public museums governed and financed by the government. This paper seeks to answer why Korean private museums have failed to earn the public's trust. It analyzes the internal problems of private museums such as their lack of accountability and authority that have actually caused the public to distrust their public status. It also explores the external challenges that impeded their efforts to strengthen their public value. Additionally, possible solutions to overcome these intrinsic and extrinsic challenges are discussed. | |
