| Abstract | Studio glass is hand-blown glass created in a studio rather than a factory. Made possible with the introduction of tools and techniques within the United States in the 1960s, studio glassblowing secrets were mastered by the Italians and highly guarded for centuries. Bringing these tools and techniques to the U.S. spurred a revolution in glassmaking. During the studio movement, glassblowers pushed the boundaries of the material and began to make objects that were sculptural and no longer purely functional; yet, studio glass has encountered difficulties entering the New York art market. | |
