International Art Festivals: African Contexts

This essay explores the culture of international arts festivals in Africa, in order to understand what this cultural phenomenon is in the African context, or contexts. I come to this research with the hypothesis that while international arts festivals have norms and influential factors that are consistent regardless of where they are produced, there are nonetheless specific historical and cultural circumstances that are unique to Africa.
