Abstract

For most non-profit performing arts organizations, the marketing and development functions exist as separate entities or departments. Yet while each department contributes to the funding stream, both are understood as operating independently of each other. True to its specific place in the organization, both proceed from different assumptions, which encourage functional autonomy with negative consequences at the levels of administrational and organizational effectiveness. An improved relationship between both could improve strategies to address specific organizational strengths and weaknesses.
