The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Arts, Media and Cultural Management at the rank of Assistant (1702122) or Associate (1702126) Professor. The appointment will begin July 1, 2018.
Applicants are required to have a PhD or other doctoral degree in Arts Management, Media Management, Cultural Management, or another relevant field. For applicants to the Assistant Professor position this degree should be acquired by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Applicants for the Assistant position must demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, and must have demonstrated research strength in the critical study of an area within arts, media and cultural management. Applicants to the Associate position must demonstrate excellence in research and teaching, and must have demonstrated research strength in the critical study of an area within arts, media and cultural management. All candidates also must have a research focus in one or more of the following areas: entrepreneurship and innovation, leadership, equity and diversity, strategic planning, education and outreach, community building and engagement, and cultural policy and ethics. Candidates must also demonstrate an aptitude for working within our interdisciplinary arts department where horizontal connections among faculty of different fields are encouraged: see http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/acm/acm-research-themes. This may be demonstrated through interdisciplinary connections made in the candidate's research and writing, an interest in interdisciplinary methodologies of research/teaching, and/or a history of collaborating formally with colleagues across fields of interest. The successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role in responding to ongoing fundamental changes in arts, media and cultural management and a willingness to contribute to all aspects of departmental development (Associate applicants must demonstrate a track record for taking a leadership role). Experience in professional practice is not required but is welcome.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. Candidates for the Assistant position must have an emerging record of scholarly accomplishments and provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by publications in leading academic journals and/or with leading academic presses, a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at significant conferences, awards for work in the field and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing. Candidates for the Associate position must have an established and sustained record of scholarly accomplishments and provide evidence of excellence as appropriate to the rank of Associate Professor. Excellence in research is demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact publications in leading academic journals and/or with leading academic presses, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.
Candidates must also have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. This can be demonstrated through strong endorsements from referees, positive student evaluations, a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to excellent pedagogical practice, demonstrated excellent performance in other teaching related activities, and teaching accomplishments highlighted as part of the application. The ability to teach across the Arts Management programs and to contribute to the evolution of the curriculum is required. Successful experience in graduate teaching and supervision is required for an appointment at the Associate Professor level.
